Governmental Tan Tax to take effect July 1, 2010
DENVER (July 6, 2010) – Colorado-based At The Beach Tanning continues to grow in spite of a new tax imposed by the government. At The Beach celebrated the opening of its 50th store this year and plans to open an additional three stores in the next quarter. Even with the threat of an increased tax imposed by the government, At The Beach Tanning continues to thrive.
As of July 1, 2010, the federal government is adding a 10% tax on the cost of indoor tanning services that involve UV light. This tax was included as part of the health care reform bill recently signed into law.
“At The Beach and the Indoor Tanning Association strongly oppose the Tan Tax. At The Beach provides a service to our customers to help them look and feel better. We don’t want to take away from that experience or let the government-imposed Tan Tax affect that experience,” said Belt.
At The Beach offers multiple levels of beds, no-wait tanning, as well as two UV-free options, VersaSpa and Mystic Tan.
“We opened our 50th store this year, a proud accomplishment for us. That level of growth and demand shows that people are tanning, and people will continue to tan, despite the government Tan Tax,” said Brian Belt, CEO of At The Beach.
Despite the Tan Tax, it’s business as usual for At The Beach, who already provides tanning education online as well as UV-free tanning opportunities for customers. Founded in 1987, At The Beach Tanning first opened its doors with four beds in south Oklahoma City. With headquarters in Colorado and Oklahoma, ATB has grown to 55 stores in three states - Colorado, Oklahoma, and Kansas - and is one of the most recognized tanning brands in the industry.
